Planned Parenthood

Amanda at Mousewords has an interesting post on Planned Parenthood and an equally interesting theory on why that institution has provoked so much enmity from the Right. In addition to being big, well-funded, and effective (funny, kinda like the Social Security Administration), Amanda suggests that the organization's very name sends the wingnuts...er...I'm sorry, the social conservatives with whom Progressives must learn to come to terms...into a bitter and insatiable fury.

I'm sure the name Planned Parenthood was chosen because it was accurate, and also to generate interest and empower the clientele. Nowadays, the notion that women plan when they have children is the norm, and that's created a lot of resentment. Planning is power and control.
