"He lost his cap on that one!"
Sept. 9, 1965, Dodgers vs. Cubs, 9th inning, in the City of Angels...
Jay Jaffe has a link to an mp3 of Vin Scully's call of the last three outs of Sandy Koufax's fourth no hitter and first perfect game. Koufax struck out the side, in fact, the last six batters in a row.
Scully is brilliant. He's restrained, economical, and with an eye towards the history he's relaying by being careful to give the time and date as the final strike is recorded.
Here's the box score for a game in which Bob Hendley, the Cubs hurler, threw a one-hitter, a record for the fewest number of hits in a nine-inning game. Hendley was 2-3 following the game, Koufax 22-7 for the no-hit Dodgers.
