A silver lining appears over Legends Field
Generally a pretty lousy day in the frozen and gloomy northeast. But a ray of sunshine from Florida is reported on the sports pages this morning:
Fortunately, Joe Torre appears immune to George Steinbrenner's annual obsession with base stealers who cannot get on base.
Derek Jeter batted leadoff Thursday, with the new second baseman, Tony Womack, batting ninth. Manager Joe Torre said he expected to stick with that arrangement, mainly because he could not think of another everyday player who could bat ninth.
