The sad, sorry plight of middle aged white guys

As much good, clean fun as it is to keep Imus twisting in the wind during his forced, two week vacation, and as important as it is to shine a light on the real "hos" who go on his show regularly and laugh at his "jokes" while pushing their books, one thing seems to be getting lost in the discussion. Imus is incredibly popular among the "serious" people in our country -- middle aged white guys. I'll let you, Dear Reader, come to your own conclusions about what it means that he has over two million listeners and viewers, sitting in their cars or watching at the gym, chuckling at racial attacks on female collegiate athletes, among others. The kind of jokes these sad, sorry men likely can't tell at their own workplaces.
