Ashkroft redacts history
"The danger to political dissent is acute where the Government attempts to act under so vague a concept as the power to protect 'domestic security.' Given the difficulty of defining the domestic security interest, the danger of abuse in acting to protect that interest becomes apparent."
That's the text of a passage the Ashkroft's DoJ recently redacted from the findings of the ACLU as part of their legal fight with DoJ over the Patriot Act.
Weird thing, though, the text is from a Supreme Court decision, United States v. United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, 407 U.S. 297. Supreme Court decisions are part of the public record, which, in John Ashkroft's world, should be secret.
Krazy, man.
[I tried to include a link to the decision, but FindLaw keeps krashing the komputer].
