Derek and Alex

Some thoughts on last night's game.

Derek Jeter, after being on a team that has failed to get to the World Series the past couple of years (gasp) is very serious. He picked the team up last night and carried them over Nate Robinson's prone body. The votes are already in, but he's the American League MVP.

I mentioned to Madame Cura before the game that I thought Torre should have played Bernie Williams in Right last night, since he's been hitting lefties much better than Abreu this year. Reason # 5,027,432 that Torre, and not the Vega, are managing the Yankees.

Lost in all the hoopla: Alex Rodriguez hit the ball on the screws three times last night, albeit right at fielders. He'll be fine.

Damon is still struggling at the plate, though he started the five run rally with a lucky infield hit. That could be a problem.

Jim Leyland cannot play "small ball" and expect his Tigers to win. They have to put multiple runs on the board and hope their superior bull pen can get them through. Having "Pudge" Rodriguez attempt (and fail) to bunt, then (fail again) put on the hit & run was a killer for the team last night.

Tonight's Detroit starter was eight years old when tonight's Yankee starter made his debut with the Orioles.

The weather is unseasonably warm. The balls will carry.

Jorge Posada drives a Maserati. Cool.

[chanting] Let's go, Yankees.
