More clutching their pearls

Digby's been on fire of late. And his post today about the how the shrillness of lefties is making it difficult for our poor, beleaguered leaders in the War on Terror to Defend of Our Way of Life is especially on target.

I'm sure most of you have noticed that the Republicans, the media and now even the military have been spending a lot of time on the fainting couch lately and I have to admit that I'm getting concerned for this nation's security because of it. This isn't happening just because their whalebone corsets are laced too tight. It's because the angry left has been saying some very ... how can I put this ... inelegant things and that makes it nearly impossible for our manly leaders to guard democracy and protect us properly. Think about it.

And now, today, ripped from the headlines: Shrillness, Campus Edition.

hat tip: Fox & Friends, on the Fox News Channel, but NewsMax and The New York Sun both have articles you can check out.

The specific incident where the other students called Marine student Matthew Sanchez a "baby killer" and because he was a minority, "ignorant" and "fodder" for the military, actually occured [sic] last fall. The story is back in the news because student veterans are trying to do something about it.

Oh. My. "Baby killer?" That's so...so...sixties (long, greasy hair and sex...makes the righteous ones' skin crawl).

But, on further inspection, maybe not so much.

Mr. Sanchez, as first reported by a Columbia student, Chris Kulawick, in a January 18 opinion piece in the Columbia Spectator, says three Columbia students accosted him at the Military Society table at the university's annual activities fair, calling him a "baby killer" and saying that, as a minority serviceman, Mr. Sanchez was "ignorant" and "stupid" for allowing himself to be used as "fodder" for an exploitative military.

"The accusations are a series of defamatory fabrications that serve to discredit the anti-war movement on campus," one of the students, Monica Dols, wrote in a January 30 opinion piece in the Spectator. Another student, Zach Zill, acknowledged in a Spectator op-ed piece that he "confronted" three military recruiters but said he did not make the comments attributed to him.

Mr. Sanchez did not respond to requests for comment yesterday.

Ridiculous.

But, hey, I'm never one to turn my back on a member of the 101st Fighting Keyboardist's call for civility in our public discourse:

I'm so sick of college libs pulling this kind of crap. I'm also sick of the media ignoring it, but I'm not surprised. Seriously though, what's with "tolerant" liberals these days? They have to name call and throw tantrums about EVERYTHING. For the last time, get your people to connect with the American people and maybe they can get elected and do what you want them to. In the mean time [sic] be civil, especially to the veterans who's [sic] sacrifice allows you to live your little elitist lifestyles.

I'd rather not rant on this much more, because there isn't a whole lot to be said. These libs are simply disgraceful. Sadly [sic] these are the types that control the Democratic Party today, even though most Dems would try to call them the fringe.

Tantrums. About EVERYTHING.

I have to leave work for the rest of the day. The logic in that last paragraph has given me a mild case of vertigo.
