Pomp, pageantry and faux uniforms

Not since Leni Riefenstahl and Adolph Hitler have we seen a government so keenly aware of the power of symbols and the symbolism of power. It is common for presidents, when visiting the troops, to don a windbreaker or a cap with the unit's number or nickname.

But I do not ever recall a President of the United States wearing a quasi-military uniform designed for him, as this one appears to have been.

Thanks to Atrios.

I wonder if Karl Rove is borrowing a page or two from Ms. Riefenstahl for the inauguration rally.

UPDATE: Wow. It gets even better. A circular stage with the Presidential Seal.
