Frist gives new meaning to "blood, sweat and tears"

Now, I realize that this is not his specific area of expertise (though neither is legislating, and that hasn't stopped him), but this is ridiculous.

Stephanopoulos: You're a doctor. Do you think tears and sweat can transmit HIV?

Frist: I don't know ... I can tell you.

Stephanopoulos: You don't know?

Frist: I can tell you things like, like ... condoms.

Stephanopoulos: ... You believe that tears and sweat might be able to transmit AIDS?

Can a man who has performed heart surgery be that stupid? Or is he saying that since becoming a Republican Senator, he has realized that faith-based educational programs trump medical science?

We have come far, haven't we?
