Popular vote? We don't need no stinkin' popular vote
As I've posted recently, Aristide was a disaster. But he was an elected disaster. One of the first (elected, not disaster) presidents in Haitian history. Whether marines kidnapped him or not is beside the point. The Bush administration made it clear from the start that he had to go. That made his situation impossible which made negotiating a political solution impossible.
Our unelected disaster doesn't worry about such niceties. Which makes the kidnapping rumor, unthinkable just a few years ago when we were still sorting through our heavy-handed crushing of democracy in places like Chile, seem plausible.
Atrios has further thoughts.

I don't know how Alex Belth does it, but he does it. A really remarkable lineup of baseball guys on the Yankees prospects for the year.
My favorite line comes from Rob Neyer, when asked what he's looking forward to and what he's dreading for the season:
"I’m looking forward to the 50-60 times they lose. I’m dreading the 100-110 times they win, not to mention all the media attention."
They sure take apart Theo, to boot.
