El Duque!
Mark my words, baseball is a sport where predictions almost always look foolish, but this could be the best acquisition the Yankees make this spring training.
"TAMPA, Fla., March 6 — The Yankees have agreed to a contract with Orlando Hernández, bringing back the mercurial right-hander who was a mainstay of their championship teams from 1998 to 2000.
"Two officials familiar with Hernández's contract negotiations said he had agreed to a one-year, $500,000 contract, with a chance to make $1 million more in incentives. Hernández will report to Legends Field on Sunday for a physical.
"'I'm more optimistic than I have been in a while, because I think he wants to be here,' Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman said. 'But we'll see.'"
I exaggerate. Coming to terms with Joe Torre and extending his contract to manage his dugout full of all-stars is probably more important.
