Stay the course!

Oh my, I'm not sure these people understand the terms "Winning," "war" or "women."  In fact, I don't think they know what "on" means either.

Grand Ol' Wingnuttery

Think the venom Obama has to deal with is new?  Think again.

So Crow was insane. But he was also by no means atypical of the venom spewing Republicans of the 1940s. We think of Obama facing some uniquely crazy Republican opposition but it’s not so original. This kind of hackery goes back a long ways. Of course, the Republican Party of the 1940s had more than just crazies, and that’s why Crow hated Morse so much. But add a little geographical realignment to the mix and it’s not hard to see how complete wingnuttery would come to take over the entire Republican Party.

The Republican party of the 1940s had been completely out of power for more than a decade, feeding the frenzy of their impotent hatred.  But that rising bile would eventually weaken the Democratic party in ways we're still feeling today.  It started with Yalta where FDR "lost Europe" to Stalin, and reached it's apotheosis when Truman and the "China hands lost China," when China was not ours to lose.  There was a direct line from there to Joe McCarthy and disastrous foreign policy decisions in Asia by administrations terrified of "losing" first Korea than Vietnam.

Exotic backgrounds -- the Senate vs. the House

According to Charlie Cook, how big a problem a candidate's "exotic background is depends on whether the candidate is running for the Senate or the House.

Why does the president hate me?

Sweet Jesus, over at Hamsher's place, the consensus seems to be that the Shirley Sherrod firing is yet another sign that Rahmbama hates liberals, the middle class and is, in the words of one commenter, "a putz." Evidence that Obama had any hand in what appears to have been an instinctive reaction by Vilsack is simply assumed rather than submitted.

Ya know, we all recognize that the tactics of Breitbart, Beck, Limbaugh, and Fox News generally are to fire up the wingnut base in hatred of Democrats. What we often fail to recognize is that the same tactics are intended to fire up the liberal base as well...also, to hate Democrats.

They're masters of the media. We're putzes.

Well, he does know something about conspiracies

I would be sad for G. Gordon Liddy as he mumbles and looks helpless even in his obstinance, but G. Gordon Liddy is a human piece of shit, so not so much.

Now at least it is clear that there is no piece of evidence that will "convince" the birfers. But it is an enjoyable show as they try to grasp a conspiracy that stretches all the way back to Obama's grandparents, abetted now by the Republican governor of Hawaii. And it is all to Obama's advantage as his opponents, crazy or not, are going to be lumped with these ranting, incoherent fools.

Keep it coming, guys.

Things will be kinda light for the next several days. Go out and protest...something. And be oblivious about it.

Forgive us, Dear Leader, for we know not what we done

Well this has been getting all the ridicule it richly deserves:

Our failure to stand by the one person who continued to stand by us has not gone unnoticed by our enemies. It has shown to the world how disloyal we can be when our president needed loyalty -- a shameful display of arrogance and weakness that will haunt this nation long after Mr. Bush has left the White House.
It's us, the craven citizenry of the U.S. that has shown "arrogance and weakness that will haunt us" for years to come. Glad that's been clarified.

As for our "enemies," Mr. Shapiro, my guess is that they are now greatly concerned that their greatest recruiting tool will soon be leaving office and that Americans have finally shown some common sense in choosing a leader.

Protest this, bitches

Via Roy, I do believe wingnuttia has just opened a new wing in the think tank:

I'm not suggesting Snipes isn't guilty, or shouldn't go to jail, but you never hear a peep from the supposed freedom loving liberals when it comes to how government taxes and spends, thereby controlling our lives, as well as our livelihoods.

You can peace march all you want, try to persecute telco's for providing information to the government, and stage all the faux torture events you want in protest of government actions.

But what's perfectly clear in America today is one thing - you don't screw with the tax man. Never let it be said that our government doesn't know from whence its power springs.

It would be wise to consider that when debating hyper-regulative responses to issues like global warming and supporting politicians who love big government. It always comes with a price. And ultimately that price is freedom, just as much as it is dollars.

In relative terms, there will be little or no liberal hand-wringing over the Snipes conviction, which causes one to wonder if they really understand freedom at all. Snipes appears to be guilty, but he WAS striking Big Brother at its heart in a way few if any anti-war protesters ever do.

Perhaps Snipes can use that for his appeal.

Stockholm syndrome

Bizarro world.

Mr. Kristol will write a weekly column for The Times beginning Jan. 7, the newspaper said. He is editor and co-founder of The Weekly Standard, an influential conservative political magazine, and appears regularly on Fox News Sunday and the Fox News Channel. He was a columnist for Time magazine until that relationship was severed this month.

Mr. Kristol, 55, has been a fierce critic of The Times. In 2006, he said that the government should consider prosecuting The Times for disclosing a secret government program to track international banking transactions.

In a 2003 column on the turmoil within The Times that led to the downfall of the top two editors, he wrote that it was not “a first-rate newspaper of record,” adding, “The Times is irredeemable.”

Writes Josh Marshall,

But the weirdest thing about the choice is that Sulzberger and Co. have failed to grasp the taxonomy of the neoconservative literary cartel. David Brooks is the house-broken William Kristol, the cadre tasked with operating just behind enemy lines, or at least in the no-man's-land where only a kinder gentler version of the faith can be propounded. And they already have him.

Cue the movie trailer announcer voice:

IN A WORLD where a war mongering columnist gets every prediction exactly wrong, only one man can take a shit in the lobby of the New YorkTimes and get a job there.

What would Ward Churchill say?

There seems to be a growing consensus among conservatives that another mass murder of thousands of Americans is just what this country needs.

That these people aren't shunned and driven from their communities is disturbing.
