Funny thing about humor: it's supposed to be funny

I believe the fellow formerly known as Buttflier takes an AP reporter to task for encouraging "hate speech" against Ann Coulter (yes, I wrote "against") and chides her for being humorless.

A crowd at the University of Connecticut shouted down Ann Coulter last night, and AP reporter Shelley Wong appears to think it's a good thing. As happens so often in press coverage of Ms. Coulter, Wong repeats accusations of "hate speech" against Coulter without citing any examples that could conceivably be so characterized. That's old news, however; here is what I want to point out:

During the question-and-answer session, someone asked Coulter if she really was against a woman's right to vote.

"Not having women vote is a joke," she said, reversing comments she has previously made.

Not even Ann's helpful observation that her comments on women's suffrage have been "a joke" dissuades Ms. Wong from her conviction that Ann has seriously advocated revoking women's right to vote. Amazing. [AssICBM's italics, not mine]

Well, I guess he's right. Nothing Coulter says or writes is "serious."
