Mike Mussina, despite his Stanford U. degree, is one of the smartest pitchers in the American League. And this year he's shown himself to be one of the wiliest. He's pitching with inflamation in his elbow, but it was obvious last night that he didn't pitch Sunday, not because he "didn't know" how he would pitch, but because he and Joe Torre knew he would be fine and should be the Game One starter.

Torre gave away Sunday's game -- and home field advantage in the first round -- to set up his pitching rotation. Looks smart this morning.
