Loyalty has its rewards
In this case, a seat on the Supreme Court!
But, really, in looking for guidance from the usual liberal sages on Harriet Mier's nomination, I was surprised to find the most succinct point of view on her attributes from the Corner's J-Pod.
Frist is already demanding that White House files are off-limits to the Senate. Since she's likely been involved in some fashion in nearly ever decision made by this administration (and will likely have to recuse herself from many, many cases involving those decisions), that is, even by Frist's high standards, a sure sign that neither "checks" nor "balances" will be at play here in the Senate. Is the loyalty of Republican Senators to this administration as fervid as Miers' is to George W. Bush? So fervid that they are willing to once again expose the Senate's belly to the Executive branch? I mean, party loyalty is one thing, but weakening your branch's role to the point of irrelevancy is quite another.
