Doing the absolute minimum

I was struck by this line from Bush during Wednesday night's debate:

Actually, Mitch McConnell had a minimum-wage plan that I supported that would have increased the minimum wage.

Hmmm, I thought. Who knew these two conservatives could be so compassionate. But wait, I pondered, they're both Republicans and Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House, so "wha' happened?"

Apparently, despite the preznit's commitment to this issue, nothing really went anywhere.
