Mr. Kay's Broadway Barbership
Kay Demetriou, aka Mr. Kay, was my barber from around 1982 to when he retired, which would have been shortly after this film was made. Sitting in his shop and listening to his stories of starting in London before WWII and of his customers there on Broadway and 103rd was a physical connection to the past.
I got a haircut and a shave there (after a long wait) on the morning of Saturday, June 29, 1991. Happy anniversary, Madame Cura.

A good barber. A great human being. Mr. Kay cut my hair when I lived on the UWS in the 80s. After an electric massager to the scalp and a vigorous stiff brush to my very short hair, he would reliably say, "Now you look like a prince!" It flattered me. Then one time while I was waiting my turn he finished up with a patron and said, "Now you look like a prince!" I still chuckle over that. Beloved ... is the word for Mr. Kay.
