Health care reform is happening
Obama's budget actually provides money to do it, and in directing Congress to work with the administration to craft it, they've taken the lessons of 1993 to heart. At that time, Clinton put no money in the budget for health care reform and then dumped a 700+ "plan" in Congress' lap that was DOA due to Republican obstructionism, heath care industry propaganda, and Blue Dog Democrat pissiness.
Ezra, who knows this stuff really likes what he's seeing.
As do I. The administration's guiding principles reflect that they understand this must not be seen as social welfare. Personally, I worry about my own situation, especially losing the tax exemption for employer-provided health care. But I weigh that against the benefits of portability and no pre-existing conditions. It's encouraging to see that the administration recognizes that they must understand the needs and gain the confidence of the 85 percent of Americans who currently have health coverage.
