No, winning two of three up in the Fens probably doesn't mean all that much for the standings, but winning games are all that matter at this point. That said, the fact that Cano tripled off of Hideki Okajima in the eighth (scoring Hideki Matsui) and Rodriguez -- taunted all weekend by those wacky and inventive Boston fans wearing blond wigs -- homered off of Papelbon in the ninth made it an especially sweet victory.

Full disclosure -- since it was the ESPN Sunday Night Game and a Red Sox/Yankee game that would last four plus hours, I was well into dreamland when all of that occurred, but was awakened at 6:15 this morning by the replay of John Sterling calling the play, "An A-bomb from A-Rod!"

Of course, this being the 2007 Yankees, Pettitte had to leave the game in the fifth with tightness in his back.
