Rudy!'s the one!

Kevin Drum and lots of other otherwise smart observers seem to be looking at the 2008 GOP race with blinders covering the results of the 2000 GOP race. Remember, the powers that be cynically foisted upon the American voter a man who had never successfully accomplished anything in his life, whose every failure was smoothed over by family connections, and who had never been heard to utter a coherent thought. Yes, Rudy! is insane, but he's an authoritarian who appeals to the base. Furthermore, if 2000 is any guide, unless the Big Money in the party simply doesn't like any of them, they'll ultimately make the call (remember, McCain won New Hampshire in 2000, only to be destroyed by all kinds of disparate -- though coordinated -- GOP interests in South Carolina). And, I think, Rudy! "every day is 9/12," is the one for them, implosion or not.

To correct a misconception Kevin is under, those who experienced first hand his reign in New York aren't amazed that Rudy! has even a chance, they're terrified that he does.
