Not taking the fall for Giuliani's ego

A former aid to Mayor Rudy! speaks.

Rudy’s getting a lot of heat for the decision. He’s trying to run on his homeland-security and national-security background, and if you start peeling back the skin on the errors he made when he was mayor, you take away a lot of the basis for his candidacy… I feel sad that he would betray somebody that had served him loyally in the past, and I’m angry, too. But when you get to know Rudy, you know that this is the kind of thing he does. That’s just his personality.
Giuliani was an outsized mayor with an outsized ego. And his candidacy appears to be relying on New Yorkers and other observers of his often bizarre antics and decisions suffering a kind of collective amnesia, perhaps brought on by the trauma of seeing the towers collapse.

If he thought he could simply pass off his decision to choose the World Trade Center as his emergency command post, he's forgetting the roar of disapproval and ridicule that decision was met with at the time.
