Well, at least we achieved "consensus"
Even if there's, like, virtually no way the proposals can work in Iraq.
What is so amazing about the report is that even while it warns that the situation in Iraq is "on the verge of spiralling out of control," and that the U.S. will soon lose control of events, it takes an almost can-do American spirit when making the recommendations. It ignores the fact that we are now just one of many actors on the Iraq stage. We have no ability to purge the interior ministry where corruption and atrocities are occuring every day. We have no ability to bring Iran and Syria to the table, let alone persuade them to help quell the violence. We don't even know who is leading the insurgency, and we certainly don't know who we would need to bring to the table.
If this is mere cover for a gradual pull-out of U.S. troops than fine, and it's wonderful that the Washington press corps and the Dean think that Sandra Day and the Wise Men have a hit on their hands that's easy to dance to, but let's not kid ourselves that the document represents anything more than a political document.
