Gun-loving Democrats

I tend to agree with those who say that the belief among many of the pundits that last week's election moved the Democratic party to the right is both wrong and terrific as it underscores the basic centrism of the party compared to the Repug's extremism.

Mark Schmitt is one of those and looks at how the so-called moderate, DNCC-backed candidates did against real progressives.

Is there a lesson here? It's not a big sample size, but it suggests that in a district where a Republican was vulnerable to defeat, a plain-spoken progressive could do it at least as easily as a focus-grouped moderate. Perhaps even better.

So, go ahead press barons, heap on the gun-totin', muscular Dem stuff. But let's not get carried away with Rahm Emanuel's brilliance.
