Have a great day!

The morning awoke, dreary and humid. The front page of the paper edition of The New York Times only enhanced the startling clarity of the day:

Series of Bombs Explode on 7 Trains in India, Killling Scores
No Group Claims Attack on Cars at Rush Hour

WHITE HOUSE SAYS TERROR DETAINEES HOLD BASIC RIGHTS
Concedes Protections of Geneva Conventions Apply by Law

The fact that the editors felt the need to put that in "news flash" bold type is a sure sign of how far we've fallen in this country.

Wave of Violence in Baghdad Puts 3-Day Death Toll Past 100

But Joe Lieberman just told us that things had improved so much.

And that's just above the fold.

Today's edition does have a fine obit of Syd Barrett, written by Jon Pareles.
