Kirby Puckett

We went to see the Yankees play the Twins at the Stadium on a sweltering evening in what must have been 1994 or 1995. When the Twins' most famous player came to the plate for his first at-bat there was a scattering of boos among the meager crowd in the Bronx. I thought at the time, how do you boo Kirby Puckett?

Like so many professional athletes, his life after his playing days ended was often troubled, but he was a thrill to watch during a career that was cut too short.
