The Italian connection

Josh Marshall -- who seems to be able to both blog and do investigative reporting at the same time...an astonishing feat of prestidigitation -- has begun unveiling the fruits of his reporting on the ultimate source of the forged documents at the heart of the Niger/Iraq/yellowcake debacle.

It looks like it's going to have a whole mess of tentacles involving the Berlusconi government, the White House, and any number of bad operators. But in the most recent installment, I noticed this little nugget:

[Elisabetta Burba] confronted Martino and demanded to know where he had gotten the documents. She threatened him with exposure, telling him she had no responsibility to preserve his anonymity since he had deceived her.

If only more White House reporters, endlessly spun by various "senior White House aides" and used to slime opponents, would consider that tactic.
