The funny papers

Don't know why, but I've been cruising through their usual product of whimsically vicious insanity over at The Corner, and in the midst of reading post after blood pressure affecting post, for some reason one particularly galled me.

From a reader -- a very smart one, a lot smarter than I: "Need I remind you that in Louisiana the law is, basically, French? So, it's really the French who are to blame."

Has it all. Snarkiness in the midst of incomprehensible tragedy; needless bashing of the people of another country; a garnish of bad grammar. Michael Ledeen.

My view of humanity has always been a dim one. What we have been seeing over the last few days -- demanding that people who have gone days without clean water be summarily shot for breaking into stores and restaurants, mindlessly defending the president and actively carrying water for his administration's attempt to spin out of this, blaming the poor, etc., etc. -- takes us into a realm I couldn't have dreamt of before this week.

Jesus Christ.
