Contempt for the troops

Another member (and I do intend the pun) of the 101st Fighting Keyboardists illustrates the hollowness of the inane ribbons festooning the backs of their SUVs. They can slap on all the magnets they want, but at the end of the day, they have nothing but contempt for the poor saps who are actually doing the fighting and dying over in Iraq.

Indignantly swallowing another spoonful of cheerios and wiping the milk from his mouth with the back of his pudgy hand, Polipundit has the gall to imply that someone serving in Iraq as a Civil Affairs Officer is somehow lying about his combat experience.

The insano-Democrats are running a John-Kerry-like caricature of a soldier for this seat. His name is Paul Hackett, and he’s an ultra-liberal “Iraq War veteran” who opposes the war. In Kerry-like fashion, there is some question about Hackett’s purported combat experience, the sole theme of his candidacy. He seems to have served as a civil affairs officer, never seeing actual combat.

And the photo of the guy lighting a cigarette from the burning American flag...so very effective an oratorical device.

Even better, he's ripping Hackett and throwing his support behind a hack who is knee deep in the Ohio coingate scandal, and with a little BDSM to add just a touch of exotica to their family values portfolio. People like Polipundit are below contempt.

But that's almost beyond the point.

The attitudes of these chickenhawks and keyboard fisters give me a real sense of deja vu. These human slime molds are behaving towards those veterans returning from Iraq who dare to puncture their imperialist dreams and Dear Leader fetishes in a manner very similar to the way their "America Love It or Leave It" counterparts behaved towards vets during the dying days of the Vietnam War. After those like Polipundit, with their "conservative bent," attack returning troops like Paul Hackett, it won't be long before they'll begin the predictable attack on liberals for...attacking the troops. Here's how it goes: Toward the end of the war in Vietnam, as more and more returning soldiers -- like one John Kerry -- decided to speak out at the incompetency of our generals and civilian leadership and at the wrongness of our continued involvement, they too were attacked as un-American, as communists, as [shudder] hippies by those who supported the war unconditionally, but did not serve. Then, to cover their own disgust for the men returning from Southeast Asia -- for their verbal spitting on them -- they invented an alternative narrative that has it that it was anti-war protesters who literally spat on the troops (never mind that if that had ever happened, the troops themselves, or their families, or certainly the MPs, police and/or troopers who were on hand covering security would have stomped said protesters into the ground).

Protest the war and the killing of our troops for a series of lies and disinformation and you are accused of not supporting the troops. Hate the troops who protest the war and you are...a loyal conservative.
