David Brooks finds meaning in the deadly tsunami
This is a moment to feel deeply bad, for the dead and for those of us who have no explanation.
Shorter David Brooks -- the tsunami in Asia wasn't simply a natural disaster, it had meaning for those thoughtful enough to understand: That it was better in the olden days, when such disasters were seen for what they are, the wrath of God; that "naturalists" are misguided pussies, since nature is to be combatted, not coddled.
At least I think that's what he saying, it's nearly impossible to tell with the increasingly benighted Brooks. Brad DeLong parses the column at greater length.
